CARTER, Maxine Eleanor Smith, 71, of Gulfport, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013. She was born in Walterboro, SC, and came here in 1971 from Lakeland. She was a 41 year member of Central Christian Church and was a member of the Christian Seekers Sunday School Class where she was a class officer and benevolence and meal coordinator for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles L. "Chuck" Carter Jr.; two daughters, Cynthia D. Lamb, Leslie C. Thompson; one son, Charles L. Carter III; three sisters, Peggy Simmons, Margaret Bridwell, Judy Busby; one brother, Michael Smith; and five grandchildren. Visitation 2-4 pm, on Saturday, Sept. 28th, at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home, 4100 16th Street North. Funeral Service will be 4 pm, Sunday, Sept. 29th, at the Central Christian Church with Pastors Rich Franz & Gary Thompson officiating.
