MATTHEW LEE ERICKSON VALPARAISO, IN Matthew Lee Erickson, 18, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011. He was born December 17, 1992 in Valparaiso to Daniel L. and Cheryl L. (Miller) Erickson. Matthew was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso where he attended school through eighth grade and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 963. He graduated from Valparaiso High School in 2011, where he was a four-year member of the Cross Country team, a trumpet player in the band, a member of Varsity Singers and performed in Mocha Madness and April Antics. Matt enjoyed downhill skiing and watersports. He loved music and making people laugh. Matthew is survived by his parents: Dan and Cheryl Erickson; and sister, Amanda, all of Valparaiso; his maternal grandparents: Gene and Linda Miller of Hammond; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Howard Lee and Charlotte Helen Erickson. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 3:30 to 7:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, followed by a vigil and bonfire celebrating Matt's life at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Monticello Park Drive. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Bongard officiating. Visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow with interment of ashes at a later date in the Immanuel Memorial Garden.
