Mary (Dowd) Williams, 84, of Plainville, formerly of New Britain, died July 31, 2007. She was born in Waterbury, April 16, 1923, to the late Catherine (McCarthy) and James Dowd. She married and settled in New Britain, and raised seven children. She attended Post Junior College after graduating from Crosby High School in Waterbury. She met her husband before World War II and they married in 1946. She was a charter member of St. Jerome Church, where she was very active. She was involved with the Women's Auxiliary of the Post Office and many parent teacher organizations She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Pam and Tom Woodward, of Enfield, Jim and Sharon Williams, of New Britain, Randy Williams, of Plainville, Richard and Debbie Williams, of Plymouth, Brian and Gloria Williams, of LaPorte, Colo., Cathi Williams, of Plainville, and Nancy Gavin, of Bristol; 12 grandchildren, Daren and his wife, Pamela Woodward, Douglas Woodward, Erick, Sarah, and Patrick Williams, Todd and Brett Williams, Troy, Brian and Erika Karwowski, and Bridget and Allison Gavin; a great-granddaughter, Wren Woodward; a sister and brother-in-law, Larry and Irene Palomba; a sister-in-law, Dolores Dowd; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Williams, and a brother-in-law, Charles R. Dowd. The funeral was held Aug. 3 at the Farrell Funeral Home, New Britain, with a Mass at St. Jerome Church, New Britain. Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
