GOODWYN, MARY WHITE of Louisville, died Thursday, February 17, 2005, at her home. She was born July 15, 1906, in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Dr. William Charles White, of Woodstock, chairman of the Committee on Medical Research of the American Tuberculosis Association, and the former Mary Ellen Cameron of Toronto, Canada. In Washington, DC, Mrs. Goodwyn was a secretary to her father, contributing to the book, "Studies in Drug Addiction", written when he chaired the Committee on Drug Addiction, National Research Council. After moving to Louisville in 1938, she was chairman of the blood bank volunteers for the American Red Cross for Kentucky during World War II and also served on the boards and executive committees of the American Lung Association of Kentucky and Louisville, receiving their highest award: Director Emeritus. She also served on the board of the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Goodwyn's life, which spanned nearly a century, was characterized by her graciousness of spirit, her commitment to her community, and her profound gratitude for the many whose lives so enriched hers. Her husband, William Cantrell Goodwyn, former general counsel to the Farm Credit Administration, died in Louisville in 1986. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy White Nicolson, of Wilmington, DE. Mrs. Goodwyn is survived by two children, Mary Cameron Goodwyn Rule (Bruce) of Louisville and William Cantrell Goodwyn Jr. (Judi), of Los Angeles, CA, and their two children and two grandchildren.
