VIRGINIA W. SMITH MERRITT ISLAND Mary Virginia Watson Smith, 84, known to friends and family as Jenny, passed away peacefully at her home on Merritt Island on Monday, April 16, 2007, sur rounded by family. Jenny is survived by a daugh ter, Mary Virginia (David) Bo shart, a son, Charles S. (Linda) Smith, three granddaughters, Mary Carolyn Virginia Heming way, Emelia Rose Smith and Olivia Chloe Smith; brother, Wyna B. (Frances) Watson Sr., of Thomaston, GA; and sister- in-law, and Betty Sweet Wink some Simmons, of Macon, GA. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Sweet Smith, Jr. Jenny was born in Thom aston, GA on October 22, 1922. She was the daughter of Wyna Benjamin and Mary Virginia Watson. She lived in Thom aston until attending college at Brenau College in Gainesville, GA, where she was a member o fthe Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married her husband, Sweet, in 1941. After serving in the Phillippines as a Captain in the US Army during World War II, Sweet brought Jenny to his hometown of Cocoa where they live for 30 years. After moving to Merritt Island in 1975, Jenny en joyed reminiscing about the changes and growth of the Brevard County area and all the many loving memories of raising their family. Jenny was gracious, kind, and generous. She was the quintessential southern lady. A most thoughtful person, she kept detailed records of family and friends special anniversa ries and dates, sending cards and letters and teaching us all that it sometimes is the little gestures that count. She en joyed gardening of all kinds. Just weeks before she died, she was in her garden plant ing fresh basil. A member of the Spayed and Trowel Garden Club, she would frequently say I just like digging in the dirt! Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 19th at Pinecrest Ceme tery on Clearlake Rd, Cocoa. The family will receive friends at home immediately following the memorial service. Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Merritt Island is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice and Palliative Care, 8060 Spyglass Hill Rd., Viera, FL 32940.
