SHEEHY Mary Therese McCabe Sheehy entered into eternal rest after a long illness on Friday. April 20, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Louis E. Sheehy, Mary was born on March 11, 1922 in Ansonia, the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Elizabeth Gallagher McCabe. Mary was a lifelong parishioner and daily communicant of the Church of the Assumption where she was a member of the Children of Mary, past President and Treasurer of the Rosary Society and Altar volunteer with her Aunt Rosella Gallagher. She graduated from the Assumption School in 1934 and the Ansonia High School in 1939. Mary was a devoted daughter, wife and mother. After many years as a homemaker she was a teacher's assistant and volunteer at Assumption School and worked 26 years and retired from the Ansonia Tax Office. She was a founding, lifelong member and Past Treasurer of the Charters Hose Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of 1 libernians, Avoca Division and a member of the Alumni Mothers of Notre Dame High School. Mary enjoyed many summer vacations at Bayview Beach in Milford and later on Cape Cod with her family. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Mary Sheehy Navin, and sons, Attorney James F. (Holly) and Louis G. Sheehy all of Ansonia, four grandchildren, Joseph J. Navin II, of Ansonia, Lisette N. Athans (Stephen) of Hamden, Kaelyn M. Sheehy and Brigit R. Sheehy both of Ansonia and a great-daughter Aleksandra M. Athans of Hamden. She also leaves her beloved sister Elizabeth McCabe Hession of Derby, special cousins Elizabeth Gallagher Jordan of Shelton and Claire (Sr. Daniel Marie) McCabe of West Hartford, many nieces and nephews and cousins and her caregiver Dorothy Jordan (Arthur) of Shelton. Mary was predeceased by brothers Thomas D. McCabe and Arthur McCabe and son in law Joseph J. Navin. Mary was most happy with her family and friends especially her church and Charters Ladies by whom she will be dearly missed and never forgotten. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Smilow Cancer Center at Griffin Hospital and Connecticut Hospice for their care and compassion during Mary's illness. Calling hours for Mary will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the John T. Bennett Funeral Home 91 N. Cliff St. Ansonia, CT. Her Funeral procession will leave on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 9:00 am to the Church of the Assumption 23 No. Cliff St., Ansonia, CT. for a mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Mt. St. Peters Cemetery, Derby CT. in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Assumption in care of the Funeral Home.
