MARY SIMKO PETERS HIGHLAND, IN Mary Simko Peters, aged 83 of Highland, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She is survived by her children: Christine (Teena) Weddige (Ron), Ted Peters Jr. (Mary Ann Hrisinko), Terese (Sissy) Peters-Dykiel (Thomas) and Mary Borror (Joe); her grandchildren: Christopher Weddige (Sarah), Thomas Dykiel II (Christina), Anthony Dykiel, Timothy Dykiel, Brittaney Borror and Mitchell Borror; and four great grandchildren: Kate, Luke, Claire and Graham Weddige. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elaine Simko. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Peters. Born and raised in East Chicago, Mary married Ted Peters in 1946, despite his announcement on their first date that he planned to marry her. She measured her long and fruitful life in the happiness of her children and grandchildren. Her kindness and generosity to all of them is a memory that they all cherish. She was meticulous in every way and will always be remembered for the marvelous bounty of food available at any time in her home, especially during many happy holidays. Always a striking looking woman, Mary will be remembered from the early days when she and Ted would go out to dance and eat in Chicago night spots, on their traditional Friday nights out, and in later years when her carefully coiffed head of silver hair was a familiar sight out shopping or every week in church. Her strength of character will be remembered by those who knew her well. She was a very classy lady and she will not be forgotten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave., Highland, IN with Rev. Keith Virus, officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south Ridge Rd.), Highland, IN. There will be a prayer service Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Monday morning at the church from 9:40 AM until time of Mass.
