Mary Ruth Banks Carter, 90, went to be with the Lord Jan. 4, 2011, at Flagler Hospital. A native of Stewart County, Ga., she has lived in St. Augustine most of her life. Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse at Flagler Hospital and St. Augustine Geriatric Center. She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at McDowell Baptist Church. Mary was influential in Bible study at the Coral Landing Care Center. Survivors include her daughters, Carol Carter Whatley and Martha Diane Carter Ross; one son, Ronald Howard Carter; one sister, Betty V. (Max) Bennett, all of St. Augustine; and one brother, James Floyd (Nancy) Banks of Green Cove Springs.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDowell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Clarence Blalock and the Rev. Wayne Bush officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the McDowell Baptist Church. Interment will follow services at Craig Memorial Park.
