Mary Elizabeth Martin Pons, widow of Leo C. Pons, formerly of Millbrook Circle, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Rosecrest Retirement Center. Mrs. Pons was the daughter of the late David R. and Martha Hawkins Martin. She was a member of McCarter Presbyterian Church on East North Street. Mary was an avid gardener, and she loved the sunny Florida beaches. Surviving are a sister, Martha M. Balcombe of Fountain Inn; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Kathryn Kinslow and family of Charleston; a stepson, Frank Winderweedle of Merritt Island, Fla.; one niece; three nephews; and her neighbor and friend, Becky Duckett. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Angelina M. Roper and Lois Martin; two brothers, W. Henry Martin and David Martin; and a former husband, W.L. Winderweedle. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
