SMITH - MARY PATRICIA Pat passed away peacefully at the age of fifty-seven on Sunday March 23, 2008. She was always full of life and love and will be remembered as a beautiful and caring person. Pat loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed many of her days in Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, and in Mexico. Her passion for teaching nursing at the University of British Columbia, West Coast College, and Vancouver Community College brought her tremendous joy. Her positive energy will live on with all of those she has touched and she will stay alive in our thoughts. She truly was a marvellous person, always listening, helping others, and well respected by students and colleagues who she loved deeply. She showed tremendous strength, courage, and patience, especially in the last year of her life; our peaceful warrior. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both St. Paul?s and Vancouver Hospital who provided such kind and supportive care. She is survived by her loving family, husband Gerardo Avila, her children Antonio and Maria, her mother Margaret, and her sister Anne. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to establish a scholarship for nursing students at Vancouver Community College in memory of Pat.
