<!-- FH = The McDougald Funeral Home -->Mary Ellen Owens Carter, age 76, of 135 Circle Drive, wife of the late Reverend Joseph Carter, died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Laurens, SC on May 23, 1934, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Cleve Owens and Emma Simmons Owens. Mrs. Carter was a very dedicated and faithful pastor's wife for over 27 years. She had also worked in the school cafeteria at Varennes Heights Elementary School and worked at Hamrick's Department Store. She was a member of Mauldin Church of God and was active in the cafeteria at the Mauldin Church of God Camp Ground.Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Guthrie and her husband, Donnie of Anderson and Rita Fowler and her husband, Steve of Williamston; son, Ricky Carter and his wife, Lisa of Williamston; sisters, Rutha Mae Burkholder of Greenville, Lillie Mae Edwards and Catheline Rice, both of Gastonia, NC; brother, James Lee Owens of Myrtle Beach, SC; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 2, great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sons, David, Joey and Billy Carter; sisters, Julia Smart and Frances Martin; brother, Bobo Owens; grandson, Donald E. Guthrie and granddaughter, Sherri Carter.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Mauldin Church of God officiated by the Reverend Norman Black and Reverend Scott Vaughn. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.The family will be at the home of her daughter, Rita Fowler, 18 Dacus Drive, Williamston, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday.
