Carter, Mary O. HEMET, Calif. Mary O. Carter, R.N., 80, of Hemet, passed on August 29, 2009 from complications related to pneumonia. She was a devoted mother and loving wife. Mary Ellen Oliver was born in Scotts-bluff, Neb. and attended Torrington High School in Wyo. After receiving her nursing degree from the University of Colorado, Mary joined the Navy Nurse Corps, earning the rank of lieutenant registered nurse from 1952 until 1954. Mary performed numerous duties serving our country, including surgical wards and pediatrics. Mary was also very active in P.E.O. and a 50-year member. She met her husband, Dr. Richard H. Carter, while stationed in Long Island, N.Y. Dr. Carter, a naval medical doctor at the time, was from Cohoes, N.Y. and enjoyed a long career as an anesthesiologist in Schenectady, N.Y. They were married November 14, 1953. Mary is survived by her four children, sister, Hennie and brother, Rex. Preceded in death is her husband, Dr. Richard H. Carter and her eldest son, John, whose widow Jean lives in Clifton Park, N.Y. with their three children, Dan, Jeff and Emily. Daughter Katy Shupe lives in Beaverton, Ore. with her son, Michael. Son Michael and wife Linda live in San Diego, Calif. with son, Chris and daughter, Alexa. Daughter Trish, who took care of her for many years after her husband Richard passed, resides in Winchester, Calif. Son Kevin and wife Jeanne live in Raynham, Mass. with their son, David and daughter, Allison. Mary's sister, Hennie Wooldridge resides in Portland, Ore. and her brother, Rex Oliver resides in Great Falls, Mont.
