Mary Lu Price Miller, 84, of Summit Hills, died Sunday, July 3, 2005. Born on Dec. 13, 1920, in Larned, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Edward James and Fadina Anne Jones Price. She was married 56 years to the late Robert Abner Miller Sr., former President of Cryovac.A member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent since 1962, she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, having served as former Corresponding Secretary, Vice-President and President, and Eastern District Director. She was also a member of the Altar Guild where she did linens from 1962-1997, and served as Chairman of Linens, Vice Directress and Directress. Mrs. Miller was a member and former President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Spartanburg Garden Club, the Book Review Club, and the Home and Garden Club. She was a member, former President and Board member of the Spartanburg County Historical Society; a member, former Treasurer and Corresponding Secretary of PEO; and a member, former Recording Secretary and President of the Thursday Study Club. She was also a member of the Spartanburg Country Club, the Piedmont Club, the Assembly, the Debutante Club, Modern Literature Club, and Literary Guild Book Club. She was a 1942 graduate of the University of Chicago, having served as her Class Alumni Corresponding Secretary. She was also a member of the Chikaming Country Club of Lakeside, Mich. Mrs. Miller, along with her late husband, established the Civil War Round Table in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, of which she was very proud.She often described herself as a corporate migrant, moving with her husband and family from Illinois to Oregon to Illinois to New York to Iowa, until settling in South Carolina, which she loved.Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Schamu and her husband, Walter, of Baltimore, Md., Mary Craig "Molly" Winter and her husband, Nore, of Boulder, Colo., and Sarah Read van Rens and her husband, Erik, of Wilmington, N.C.; two sons, Edward Walter "Ned" Miller and his wife, Martha, of Greenville, S.C., and Robert Abner "Bob" Miller Jr. and his wife, Willemien, of Norwich, Vt.; a sister, Barbara McDougal of Santa Fe, N.M.; and eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Walker Miller of Greenville, S.C., Laura, Anna, and Mary Emma van Rens of Wilmington, N.C., Lilly Alice Winter of Boulder, Colo., and Ellen and Marion Miller of Norwich, Vt.Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey A. Batkin. Entombment will be in The Cloister Columbarium at the church.
