Mary Magdalene Frey December 28, 1915 - December 6, 2008 FREY - Mary Frey passed away Saturday, Dec 6, 2008 at age of 92 at Extendicare Nursing Home in Saskatoon. Mary is predeceased by her husband Emil, her parents Lambert & Katherine Miller, most of her siblings, her son-in-law Gordon Wistoski, a daughter-in-law Jeannette Frey. Mary is survived by her children: Dan, children Kevin (Anne) and Linda (Weldon) Seidler; Ralph (Liz), children Lillian (Dave) Tilley, Greg, Cindy (Dana Quinn) and Eddie: Myra Wistoski children Glenn and JoAnn; Barb Katerynych, child Travis; Helen (George) Bergman children Harold (Lisa), Gloria (Leroy) Newhook, Robbie (Christie) and Marion; Jacqui (Merv) Wiesner, children Leanne (Scott) Sumners, Jody, Lenny (Trinidy Poirier) and Aaron; Shirley (Don) Vollman, children Kathy (Chris) Wurz, Brad (Vicki), Murray (Stasha) and Michelle; Lynn (Heinz) Brechbuehl, children Daniela (Will) Stewart, Tracy (Steve) Herzog and Erika; Millie (Mark) Kuppenbender, children Angie (Greg) Dunn, Cindy (Clint Joyal) and Cory, Peter as well as her only surviving sister, Lenora Smith. There are also 23 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild & respective spouses. Mary was born at Liebenthal Sk, Tuesday, Dec 28, 1915. She started her education at a country school in the Leader area and was about 13 when her family moved to Wilkie and she finished her schooling there. She earned her living cleaning houses for other people and gained a reputation as a good & hard worker. Earning .12/hr, she earned enough to buy all her necessary furnishings to set up home before she got married. She married Emil Frey June 21, 1937 and they farmed in the Starview (Wilkie) area until 1954 when they moved to their own farm in the Kerrobert area. Mary was very well known for her huge & prolific gardens as well as her fabulous cooking/baking. She was well known here for her kindness & compassion. Once her family was grown & gone, she retired & fostered her passion for flowers & gardening even more. Family was her greatest passion & she was happiest when surrounded by her family. In 1985, Mary moved to Saskatoon with her husband due to his failing health but she quickly became immersed in the social life of her seniors’ apartment block and made many new friends. Her subsequent moves to Caleb Manor Assisted Living and Extendicare also brought about more friends. Vigil for Mary will be held from Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing) on Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Cathedral (Spadina Crescent East & 22nd Street East, Saskatoon, Sask. S7K 3H2) on Friday, December 12th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with celebrant Very Reverend Father Don Hamel. Rite of Committal will take place at a later date. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, Sask., S7K 2H8).
