ORONO - Mary M. (O'Connor) Kenney, 81, died Jan. 6, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 8, 1929, in Brewer, the daughter of Timothy P. and Mary (Barry) O'Connor. Mary graduated as valedictorian from John Bapst Memorial High School, Class of 1947. She went on to work at Prudential Insurance, Bangor. She married Freeman P. Kenney, Sept. 26, 1953. Mary was a devoted mother to her eight children. After raising them she returned to work at Stillwater Health Care as a dietary aide until her retirement. She was a former member of St. Mary's Parish, Orono, and Daughter's of Isabella. Mary was an avid Red Sox fan. She was predeceased by her husband, Freeman; and by 11 siblings. Surviving are four sons, Michael Kenney and his wife, Rosalie, of Etna, Thomas Kenney of Hollywood, Fla., Stephen Kenney and his wife, Paula, of Lake Whales, Fla., and Joseph Kenney of Bangor; four daughters, Mary Ellen Stark and her fiance, Daniel E. Smith, of Bangor, Margaret Roberts and her husband, Jeff, of Storrs, Conn., Anne-Marie Kenney of Hermon and Catherine O'Halloran and her husband, Duane, of Brewer; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main St., Orono, where funeral services will be held noon Monday, Jan. 10.
