Mary Lucille White Beloved mother, grandmother and sister CANANDAIGUA - Mary Lucille White, age 81, of Jefferson Avenue, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Hospeace House in Naples. She is survived by three children, Gloria Jackson of New York City, Gertrude "Trudy" White Hamilton and Morris White (Patty Smith), both of Canandaigua; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nora Williams of Arizona, Helen Jones of Georgia and Princess White of Geneva; companion, Elkanah D. Campbell; several godchildren, including Edith Wormley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris White Sr. in 1979; and son, James White in 2001. Mrs. White was a community activist and an avid volunteer with the Gleaners Community Kitchen, Ontario Arts Council and several other civic groups. She was instrumental in establishing a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. held each year at First Congregational Church in Canandaigua. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Geneva and International Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. White enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. Friends may call on Thursday, March 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
