Mary Lucile Rivers Carter Mary Lucile Rivers Carter died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Marietta, Georgia, after a brief illness. She was born July 6, 1921 in Tallahassee, Florida, to Eugene Grover Rivers and Mary Lucile Moore Rivers. She graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee. Mrs. Carter attended Florida State University and the University of North Carolina, graduating from Florida State College for Women in 1943.In 1953, she married Vernon M. Carter in Tallahassee. She devoted her life to her family and community. Her volunteerism included not only community service, but also leadership positions in the Tallahassee Junior Women's Club, the Junior Leagues of Tallahassee and Manatee County, as well as several board positions with the Girls Club of Manatee County, Florida.She spent countless Wednesday mornings at the L.W. Blake Hospital in Bradenton as a volunteer. She enjoyed gardening and joined garden clubs in both Titusville and Bradenton. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Bradenton, Florida. In 1959, she left Tallahassee moving to Titusville, Florida, with her husband and daughter.The family moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1971. In 2003, Mrs. Carter moved to Marietta, Georgia, to be near her daughter and family. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Vernon M. Carter. he is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Richard and Felton Carter Little of Marietta; her grandson, Jordan Rivers Little; her brother, E. Grover Rivers, and sister-in-law, Jean Rivers, of Tallahassee; as well as several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday, January 10th, in the chapel at Trinity Methodist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Interment will be private at the Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, 6220 Manatee Ave. West, Suite 201, Bradenton, FL 34209.
