Mary Louise Whitney Bell Mary Louise Whitney Bell, 88, left this world on Thursday, March 24, 2011, after a sudden illness, surrounded by family and caregivers who loved her very much. Mary Louise was born on Jan. 17, 1923 in Rochester. She graduated from Victor High School in 1940 and briefly attended the University of Rochester. She married Jean Bell on Sept. 5, 1944 at Victor United Methodist Church. They lived on the Bell farm at Allen's Hill and then moved to Victor. They spent their summers at Canandaigua Lake and moved there permanently in 1979, into the house that Jean had built for them. Her joy was her family and her music. Her goal in life was to be a wonderful wife and mother. She was very active in her church and spent many years giving to the music ministry at Victor United Methodist Church, where she was the adult, youth and children's choir director. In her earlier years, she was a paid soloist in Hollywood, Fla. She continued to enjoy singing following her retirement as music director. For the last 30 years, Mary Louise shared her musical talent as a volunteer with M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center and Elm Manor Nursing Home residents in Canandaigua. She loved to read and spend time with friends and family. Mary Louise enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. She possessed a great desire to keep in touch with her family and friends, never missing a family birthday or class reunion. Mary Louise Whitney Bell was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Harriet Whitney. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jean Bell; two children, Mark (Jackie) Bell of Bloomfield and Kelli (Richard Quehl) Vestal of St. Charles, Ill.; and grandchildren, Steven Bell of Victor, David Bell of Penfield and Ann Vestal, DVM of Missoula, Mont. A celebration of Mary Louise's life will be held on Wednesday, March 30, at 4 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 106 E. Main St., Victor.
