->Mary Louise MillerEAST FISHKILL - Mary Louise Miller was called by her Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2012 while a patient at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. She had suffered from a recent stroke, and though received loving care from her family and hospital staff, she could not overcome her illness. Mary Louise (Mary Lou) was born on August 23, 1932 to Oran and Esther Young in White Plains, New York. She graduated from White Plains Hospital School of Nursing on June 23, 1953. On September 25, 1954, she married David James Stevens, Jr. She has had his sister Rosemary of New Rochelle as a lifelong friend. She lost her husband David tragically in 1963 yet continued to raise their daughter Donna alone. She persevered with her education and graduated with honors from Teachers College at Columbia University with a Masters Degree in Nursing Education in 1968. She went on to teach at Pace University and Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. Her students will remember her as strict but fair! In 1969, she was introduced to Harry C. Miller of Hopewell Junction. They married on May 29, 1970 and enjoyed 42 wonderful and loving years together. Mary Lou is survived by her husband Harry; daughter, Donna Stevens Trimboli; and stepson, Dennis Miller. Mary Lou also greatly appreciated the kindness of her daughter-in-law Catie Miller. She has 3 grandsons: Jeffrey and Michael Miller, sons of Dennis and Jan Dell Churchill Miller, and David Trimboli, son of Andrew and Donna Stevens Trimboli. She was also able to greet into the world her first great-grandson, Hudson Patrick Miller, son of Kelley and Jeffrey Miller. Mary Lou used her extensive experience in the health care profession to help guide others. She felt it was her calling to do so. Often, you could find her researching and answering medical questions for her friends and family. "Grandma," as she was affectionately called, very much enjoyed helping her grandsons with their schoolwork. Always an educator, she had a love of learning and passed this on to many others. Mary Louise pioneered and became the first woman Elder in the 250 year history of the Hopewell Reformed Church. She was a proud member of the Melzingah Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Wednesday Club. Her generous and selfless spirit will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction and on Friday from 10-11am at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will follow at 11am with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533.
