TUSCALOOSA Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Davis was born on August 16, 1919. She departed this life Friday, August 28, 2009.Mary Lou was married to Luther Davis Sr. They were blessed with one son, Col. Luther Davis Jr., who preceded her in death.She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Taylorville, Alabama. As a faithful member of St. Paul she served as a member of The Missionary Society, The Stewardess Board, and the senior choir.With her late husband, they owned and Mary Lou managed Davis Country Beverages. She was an organizer of Tuscaloosa Farmers Market and a member of the Board of Directors for 10 years. She was a member of Alabama Cooperative Extension Homemakers Club. Mary Lou and Luther received a Community Beautification Award for building the first brick home in Taylorville, Alabama.Mary Lou was honored on January 25, 1994, when Tuscaloosa and the community celebrated her life and accomplishments. Mayor DuPont and Representatives Poole and Melton enacted two resolutions in her name and presented her with a golden key to the city. They also declared Sunday January 30th as "Mary L. Davis Day." Loving memories are cherished by her grandchildren Dr. Ella Michelle (Victor) Temple and Luther Davis III; daughter-in-law Dr. Ernestine Bady Davis and host of many other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Taylorville, Alabama. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time.
