MORRIS Mary Leah Moore Morris, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on Tuesday, October 18th at her home in Jacksonville. She was born the oldest of six children on May 3rd, 1918, in Richmond, Virginia to William Conas and Carrie Ruth Moore. She grew up during the Great Depression on a farm that taught her how to be frugal, self-sufficient and respectful of life. She met her future husband, Robert Lee Morris, while working at Burlington Mills in North Carolina during WWII. They were happily married for 73 years and had five children: Richard Allen Morris, Barbara Ellen Morris (deceased), Judy Morris Hixenbaugh, Robert Lee Morris, Jr., and Catherine Morris Heaps (deceased). She is survived by 8 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was a devout Christian and an active member of Arlington Presbyterian Church. As a Christian, she taught her children values, faith and led by loving example. She always did the right thing, especially in helping those less fortunate than she. Over the years, she sewed thousands of patchwork quilts for the homeless - earning the nickname The Quilt Lady and later was honored by receiving the Community Lifetime Achievement Award. Mary Morris will be lovingly remembered by everyone she met as a warm, gentle and kind soul born with a spirit to cheerfully help others. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 9:00am.
