AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mary Katherine Kanellos Davis, "Yia Yia", age 63, passed away on June 5, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. She was loved and adored by her husband, who was her college sweetheart, Alpheus Mallette Davis (Al). Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Helen Kanellos and the late George Kanellos. She attended the Women's College of Georgia in Milledgeville, GA on a scholarship where she graduated with a degree in education. She was a loving, loyal, compassionate wife who cherished and honored her husband. She was a devoted mother to her four children who were her greatest joy. She later earned her Masters in Business with honors and spent several years applying her talents in real estate where she won outstanding achievement awards. Some of her favorite pass times included spending time with her family, playing cards, dancing, cooking, traveling abroad, decorating, and going to the beach. She was loved by many friends and brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Her membership at the Church of the Good Shepard helped equip her to be a selfless disciple of Christ. Above all, her commitment and trust in the Lord was the foundation of her blessed life. She is survived by her four loving children, Timothy Michael Barone of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Barone Gunn (Christopher) of Macon, GA, Stephen Patrick Barone (Stephanie) of Gastonia, NC, Katherine Barone O'Malley (Bob) of Wrightsville Beach, NC. Her mother Helen Kanellos of Columbus, OH, her sisters Anna Brown of Columbus, OH, Stella DaMore of Corinth, TX. Her uncle Nicholas Makrides (Mary Angela) of Pittsburgh, PA. Her Grandchildren Sophia Grace Gunn, Christopher Gaines Gunn, Jr., Anna Carmen Gunn, Mary Katherine O'Malley, John Connor O'Malley, Lola Marie Barone, and her family and host of friends. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Dr. Andrew Menger officiating. Pallbearers will be Timothy Barone, Stephen Barone, Lee Elder, Enon Hopkins, T. Mark McClure, Michael Graziano, Angus Wilson, and Raymond Wolford. Internment will be at Westover Memorial Park.
