GODWIN, MARY JONESMary Jones Godwin of Gainesville died May 4, 2008, at NF Rehabilitation. She was 96. Born in Michigan, Mrs. Godwin was reared in New York State and first came to Florida at the age of fourteen. She graduated from Dixie County High School and with highest honors from the University of Florida where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Alpha Kappa Delta scholastic fraternities. After earning her degree, Mrs. Godwin worked for the State Division of Family Services as a social worker, retiring after 20 years of employment. Mrs. Godwin was a Daughter of The American Revolution and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville. She is survived by a son, Walter E. Godwin of Gainesville; grandchildren Sarah G. Moylan of St. Marys, KS, Dr. Mary G. Alderman of Jacksonville, and Michael E. Godwin of Largo; and by six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Eliam Cemetery, Melrose, FL at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Alachua County, 2029 NW 6 St, Gainesville, FL 32609.
