Mary Ellen Johnson, 88, of Athens, GA passed away Monday, January 6, 2014.A native of Madison, GA, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Maguire and Annie Estelle Johnson and was preceded in death by husband, Sidney Marion Johnson and brothers, Walter Maguire and Harold Maguire. Mrs. Johnson was the first secretary employed at Hope Haven and retired from the Poultry Extension Service as an administrative secretary. She was an active member of Beech Haven Baptist Church where she taught 4 and 5 year olds in Sunday school.Survivors include son, Andy Johnson and wife, Charlotte of Watkinsville; daughters, Ellen King and husband, Eddie of Athens and Ann Flohr and husband, Larry of Kittery, Maine; grandchildren, Kristin Dickens, Brent Johnson, Brooke Johnson, Katherine Gilchrist, Rebecca Flohr Hayes, Sydney King, and Bill King, and great-grandchildren, Greer Dickens, Leslie Dickens, and Evelyn Gilchrist.Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, January 11th at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart Simms and Dr. David Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
