MORRISON Mary Jo Morrison, of Fernandina Beach, FL died in her home on August 4, 2006 of complications from Lung Cancer. She was born on November 17, 1948 in Schenectady, NY to Peter Stephan Sykowski and Josephine Elizabeth Pisarski (Sykes). She graduated form Smith College in 1970 with a BA in Psychology with minors in Math and Sociology and from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1972 with her MSW degree. As a social worker for many years in the field of Bereavement Counseling, she spent 1993-1999 in Schenectady, NY as a Family Service Coordinator at Griswold Funeral Home, during which she created a unique bereavement support program for 3 funeral homes covering 350-400 families per year, and gave workshops on grief related topics. She will be remembered in Fernandina Beach, FL for her constant ability to give back to the community through her volunteer work, as she held over 25 volunteer positions there since 1999, and was the recipient of the City of Fernandina Beach Elsie Harper Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Lockhart Morrison; 2 daughters, Cynthia Marie Loffredo Boudreau, of Hancock, MA and Deborah Ann Loffredo, of Rye, NY; her mother, Josephine Sykes of Schwenksville, PA; her sister, Stephanie Harding, of Royersford, PA; her 2 beloved dogs, Bear and Maddie, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at the Memorial United Methodist Church of Fernandina Beach on Monday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be sent to support lung cancer research to Joan's Legacy, 27 Union Square West, Suite 304, New York, NY 10003 or made online at www.joanslegacy.org .
