WRENS, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Jeanne Stephens, 81, beloved wife of C. W. "Speakie" Stephens, passed to her Heavenly reward, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at University Hospital. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 25, 2008. Funeral services will be held at Wrens United Methodist Church on Tuesday January 27, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. Her grandson, Rev. Evan English, pastor of the ARP church in Clover SC, will conduct the service assisted by Rev. Griffin Thompson. Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late George W. and Ida DeLay Robinson of Louisville Ga. She is preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn R. Nolan. Mrs. Stephens served as secretary of the Wrens United Methodist Church for 18 years. She was a charter member of both Augusta Genealogical Society and Jefferson County Historical Society. She wrote a column, Jeanne's Gems, for a number of years. In 1979, the couple began the Ancestoring column which still continues in the Jefferson County newspaper. She was a part of several publications on Genealogy, and part of the many accolades received by the paper through the years. Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Elizabeth Allison, Graniteville, S.C., Jeannie (Billy) English, Martinez, Ga., and Cyndi (Robby) Culpepper, Mitchell, Ga.; six grandchildren, Charlie Allison, Evan (Kim) English, Jonathan (Caroline) English, Austin English, Blythe Culpepper and Brooke Culpepper; one great-grandchild Travis Relkin; one brother Marion C. (Anniece) Robinson, Lilburn, Ga.; one sister-in-law Norma S. Godowns, Orangeburg, S.C. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
