She was born on August 22, 1926 to the late Henry C. Fisher, Sr. and Eula Mae Fisher. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Earl J. Fowler, Sr. and a daughter, Janice Fowler Boone.Mary Jean was a native of Buncombe County, where she attended Lee H. Edwards High School and later raised her family. Her family was her life, and she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by a daughter Cheryl Fowler Milner and husband Bob; two sons, Earl J. Fowler, Jr. and wife Debbie, and Mark C. Fowler and wife Sandra; a brother, Henry C. Fisher, Jr. and wife Lee, and a sister, Charlene Fisher Askew and husband Garland, ten grand-children and step-grand-children, and seven great-grand-children.Mary Jean was also an entrepreneur. She owned and operated The Doll Gallery on Merrimon Avenue for many years. She had a sincere love for her dolls, and her favorite doll was by her side when she died.Mary Jean was a faithful and dedicated Christian and loved her work in the church. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheville, where she served as children's Sunday School Director, adult Sunday School teacher, piano player, and member of the hand bell choir. She was also certified as a sign language interpreter, and led a ministry for the deaf at Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church for many years.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church St., Asheville, NC. An interment ceremony will immediately follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary Jean's name to benefit the music ministry of First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church St., Asheville, NC 28801.Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue is in charge or arrangements.
