Carr, Mary JeanOct. 15, 1921 - Nov. 18, 2013Mary Jean Carr, 92, died on November 18, 2013. She was born in Williamson, West Va., on Oct. 15, 1921. She graduated from Farmville State Teacher College (now Longwood University) and taught school in West Va., for a year and a half. She became a registered x-ray technician and came to Sarasota in 1950 to work for Dr. Hugh Reaves, the first radiologist in Sarasota. When Dr. Reaves retired six years later, she went to work for the Florida Power and Light Company. At her retirement, after 28 years of service, she held the position as secretary to the Western Division Engineering Manager. She sang in the Choral Society of Sarasota for many years. She is survived by two nieces, Susan Carr of Lexington, SC and Mary Beth Carr of Chester, SC. Burial will be at Palms Robarts Memorial Park on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 12:30PM. A memorial service will be held at Sunnyside Community Center on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 2PM. Donations may be made to Sunnyside Foundation, 5201 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota, FL, 34232.
