FOREST CITY, NC-- Mary Jane McBrayer Hicks, age 78 of 161 North Woodland Avenue, Forest City, NC died Sunday evening at her home following a sudden illness. She was a native of Rutherford County, NC and a daughter of the late Wilbur Lee McBrayer and Mary Sue Groce McBrayer; a member of First Baptist Church of Forest City; a graduate of Cool Springs High School and Queens College. She was an educator with the Rutherford County School System for 30 years and was co-coordinator of the Rutherford Co. Special Olympics. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hicks in 1996 and brother, Pete McBrayer.Survivors include a son, Thomas McBrayer Hicks of Forest City; daughters, Mary Hicks Springman and her husband Mark of Duncan, SC, Linda Hicks Bridges and her husband Ben and Laura Hicks Thomas and her husband Ed, all of Forest City. There are six grandchildren, Hannah Springman, Maddie Springman, Patrick Bridges, Kathryn Bridges, Reid Thomas and Courtney Thomas.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Barry K. Keys officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service in the Church Atrium.Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 211 West Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
