VERNON CENTER - Mary Jane Burke Eaton, age 79, passed on to a better place on to a better place on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010.Mary Jane was born on Sept. 26, 1931 in Rome, N.Y., a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Kielbasa) Burke. She graduated in 1949 from Vernon High School as salutatorian of her class and editor of the year book.She married Kenneth F. Eaton on Oct. 29, 1949.Mary Jane was a member and Deacon of the Vernon Center Presbyterian Church and the Neighborhood Card Club.Surviving are her husband, Kenneth; one daughter, Diane Thieme; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Marianne Eaton and Roger and Rosemary Eaton, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles Jr. and Elaine Burke; two special friends, her cat, Coco and her dog, Gumby.Mary Jane was predeceased by her brother, Richard Burke and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Bristol.Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. Mrs. Eaton's funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home immediately following calling hours.
