Mary Inez Parsons Davis, 93, of Florence, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, from complications of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).Visitation will be 6-9:30 p.m. today at Greenview Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will at 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodmont Baptist Church, Florence, with visitation starting at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Rea will officiate. Entombment will follow at Love Mausoleum, Greenview.Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, James W. Davis; parents, Guy Campbell Parsons and Mary Blanche Smith Parsons; brothers, Campbell Parsons and Herbert Parsons; sisters, Bessie Callahan Wynne and Lillian Hickman Wilson.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and David Cumbie, Florence; brothers, William Parsons, Gallatin, Tenn., and Eugene Parsons, Lewisburg, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.Mrs. Davis, the middle of seven children, was a native of Pulaski, Tenn., but had resided in Florence since 1969. She was employed for 29 years at Genesco. At the age of 64, when most people are retiring, she found her true career calling and began work in the health care field as a nursing assistant, getting certified at 72. She loved caring for her patients and often commented that she wished she had started much sooner. She retired at 78.At age 82, Mrs. Davis was diagnosed with NPH, a neurological condition where the cerebral spinal fluid does not drain properly and pressure builds in the brain causing a variety of symptons, including problems walking, incontinence and memory loss. She underwent her first shunt placement (drainage system/valve) at UAB in June 1999 with immediate abatement of symptoms. Her last shunt system worked for seven years, helping provide her with a higher quality of life, even as she suffered from other dementia/ Alzheimer's. The shunt recently malfunctioned, and because of other health conditions, it was not viable to replace it.Mrs. Davis was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church and also Woodmont Baptist Church.Pallbearers will be Byron Bush, Danny Clark, Brent Dodd, Richard Keyes, Martin Rowland, Neil Schattin, Jim Spinks and Jay Woods.Honorary pallbearers: Guy Johnson, Nicholas Gable, Greg Maxwell, Dr. Laurence C. Carmichael, Dr. Lindey E. Harrell, Dr. James M. Markert and Dr. Mark M.
