HOOPER-CAUCH, Mary Margaret October 11, 1919 - December 17, 2004 The von Hauff family announce the passing of their beloved mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. "As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me, the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who look forward to his glorious return." - 2 Timothy 4:6-8 On December 17, 2004, Mrs. Margaret Hooper-Cauch of Sherwood Park, Alberta, formerly of Etobicoke, Ontario, passed away at the age of 85 years, 2 months, 67 days. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her two children and their families. Donna (Peter) and their children: Heather (Michael), Patrick, Elizabeth, Michael, Monika, Peter Jr. and Alexander, and dear caregiver, Erwine Toews of Alberta; and Ross (Helen) and their children Christopher (Paige), Colin (Louise) and Leanne (Steffan), and her great-grandchildren: Riley and Carter, Braedon and Isabella Rose, and Zander of Ontario. Margaret's trusted canine companion of 12 years, BJ, will miss his mistress deeply. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Arthur Leeman Hooper, second husband, Walter Cauch, parents Cecil and Vera Tennant, brother Bill and sister Betty. Margaret was born in St. Catherines, Ontario, the middle child of three, into a family which was full of love, fun and shenanigans. Despite the many hardships her family experienced during the Great Depression, Margaret and her siblings just worked harder to succeed. For Margaret this meant working in a bakery during the day and attending school at night. It was this same lively spirit which led her to meet her soul-mate, Arthur Hooper, at Toronto's Varsity Skating rink in 1940. Art embodied the Western Canadian entrepreneurial spirit, which led him and Marg to establish Hooper Welding Enterprises Ltd. in 1952, and now located in Oakville and led by son Ross and grandsons, Chris and Colin. Marg and Art's lives were dedicated to their children, Ross and Donna, to the growth of the business and advancement of metal fabrication in Canada, and to their community through their involvement in the Masonic Order, Shrine, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Their cottage in Keswick, Ontario - built by Arthur with young Ross's help - was the family hideaway and the place where Margaret's green thumb coaxed seeds into beautiful flowers, and Art's passion for woodworking took shape in the boathouse. Marg and Art developed a love for yachting, traveling the Trent and Severin Canals, and the St. Lawrence to attend Canada's Centennial in Montreal in 1967. The cottage and boat were never too small for Ross and Donna's friends, every person was treated as a member of the Hooper family, including employees of their now vibrant business. Art's early death in 1972 caused Marg to take charge of the business with Ross's assistance. They were a formidable pair, youth and experience forging a new partnership in enterprise. It was then that Marg's many grandchildren began to arrive, three for Ross and Helen, and seven for Donna and Peter. Every grandchild was special in their own way. Marg also began to travel with her Shrine and Nile friends - to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia and throughout the U.S. Margaret's second marriage to Wally Cauch in 1979 provided her with a companion for her retirement years. She thoroughly enjoyed her Florida home in Lemon Bay and the many friends she made. Wally's death in 1996 left Margaret alone once more, and although she continued to visit Florida up until 2001, her declining health kept her in Toronto close to Ross and Helen, and Marg's quickly arriving great-grandchildren. She was very proud of all her grandchildren's accomplishments and their spouses and partners. In 2002, Margaret and B.J. traveled to Edmonton with daughter Donna, and took up permanent residence in this very busy family. Erwine Toews became the "Granny Nanny" and she imparted exceptional care to Margaret, even persuading her to attend exercise class. Grandma was dearly loved by all of the von Hauff family, and BJ found great satisfaction in wandering the acreage, visiting with the other dogs, cats and horses. Grandma was always coming or going - shopping, dinner, even riding Donna's golf cart and telling her how to hit the ball. Margaret's very full life reached its final chapter on December 17, 2005. She will be forever remembered by the Hooper and von Hauff families, her many friends in Ontario, Florida and Alberta. She has rightly earned her place in Heaven. God bless Mum, we will love you always, and miss you dearly - say hi to Dad for us.
