Mary Estelle Henderson, age 82, died on May 8, 2008, from complications due to emphysema. A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, she moved to Greenville in 2005. She was the daughter of the late James Alex Arnette, the Honorable Clerk of the Circuit Court of Palm Beach County, Florida, and Christian Florazell Raybon, a schoolteacher and community volunteer. She earned an Associate of Arts degree with honors from Palm Beach Junior College in 1946. She was also a talented dancer who participated in the Junior U.S.O. during World War II. After working for the Palm Beach County School Board for 13 years, she married C. Russell Henderson Jr. in 1961, a marriage that lasted until his death in 1997. She was extraordinarily devoted to her sons and extremely proud of her granddaughters. Her identical twin sister, Sara Elizabeth Spinks, predeceased her in 1990. She was an avid reader and a life-long animal lover. She treated all people with dignity and respect. She loved Greenville and Furman University.The family extends its deepest thanks to her caregivers at St. Francis Hospital and Oakmont East Nursing Facility.She is survived by fraternal twin sons, Dr. Robert A. Henderson and wife Jane Mannion, and Dr. A. Scott Henderson and partner Dr. Richard E. Prior; granddaughters, Eileen and Ciara Mannion Henderson; niece, Lynn Bumiller and husband Edward; great-niece, Kelly Bumiller Hurrell and great-nephew, Jason Bumiller; great-great-niece, Sydney Bumiller Hurrell; and her loving animal companion Tana.Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Mackey Mortuary at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
