Mary Frances Ewing (nee Hurley)1921 - 2008 On January 6, one month short of her eighty-seventh birthday. Loving sister of Michael (and his wife Maureen) of County Galway, Ireland; John (and his wife Mary) of Yorkshire, England; Philomena Rutherford of Pointe Claire. Beloved aunt of Thomas Rutherford of Pointe Claire (who took a year out to be on her care-giving team), and other nephews and nieces in Ireland, England, and the U.S., all of whom she loved dearly, and the centre of a wide circle of wonderful friends. Predeceased by her parents, husband Patrick, sisters Kathleen and Margaret, brother Thomas, and nephew Kieran. Mary, a devoted registered nurse, retired at age seventy-seven, having worked in various places including hospitals in Toronto and Montreal. Some of her most rewarding years were as an outpost nurse in Yukon and the Northwest Territories. The rest of her energy and love went to her family. Her generous spirit never ceased comforting those hurting or in need. Mary was tremendously grateful to many caring health professionals who looked after her, but most especially to Marie Poupette Joseph, R.N., of Lac St. Louis CLSC, and Immacula Raymond, who comforted her to the end. Visitation will be at Collins, Clarke, MacGillivray, White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20 (Exit 49 Cartier), Pointe Claire, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, January 11. She will be buried (in St. Joachim's Cemetery, St. John's Road, Pointe Claire) on Saturday, January 12, following 12 o'clock Mass at St. John Fisher Church, 120 Summerhill Avenue, Pointe Claire. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to Amnesty International, World Vision Canada, or any charity working to relieve pain or poverty.
