Mrs. Mary Frances Gunn Ayers, 80, 221 Couper St., Rome, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in a local health care facility.Mrs. Ayers was born in Tuscaloosa on July 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Hughlon Habson Gunn and the late Florence Labert Coley Snider. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Donald and Dale Ayers.Mrs. Ayers was employed for a number of years with Wagner Electric Co. in Boaz prior to her moving to Rome in 1994. Upon her retirement, she was employed as a CNA with Mercy Senior Care in Rome. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altoona.Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Deanna Hall, and her husband, Joe, Cedartown; a son, William "Skip" Ayers, and his wife, Susan, Rome; five grandchildren, Andrea Ayers, Gadsden, Joshua Hall and his wife, Kelly, San Antonio, Texas, Jodi Hall, Cedartown, Ga., Ben Ayers, Jacksonville, and Andrew Ayers, Rome; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Hall, San Antonio, Texas, and Skylard Ayers, Gadsden; a sister, Mrs. Linda Lowder, Salisbury, N.C.; a brother, H.E. Gunn, Summerville, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.According to her wishes, Mrs. Ayers was cremated.A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the North Broad Baptist Church in Rome. The Rev. Tony Brooks and the Rev. Katrina Brooks will officiate.The family will receive friends at the North Broad Baptist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service hour. At other times, they may be contacted at their respective residences.According to Mrs. Ayers' wishes, the family respectfully requests no flowers.
