Mary Ethel Carter, 71, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.She was a native of Hardin County and a 1961 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. She was a member of First Christian Church and was a retired travel agent for Travel-Travel and E'town Travel Agent.She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Viola Fulkerson Best, and a sister, Margie Ellen Best.She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Howard Carter Jr.; a stepdaughter, Anita (Joe) Ortego of Kingwood, Texas; a stepson, Howard David (Brenda) Carter of Elizabethtown; a brother, James Riley Best of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Betty (Allen) Davis and Frances Best, all of Elizabethtown; and two grandchildren.The funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Brown Funeral Home with Brothers Doug Mitchell, Stuart Jones and Chris Kiger officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and continues after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
