Smith, Mary EstherApril 12, 1909 - Nov. 28, 2007Mary Esther Smith, 98, Sarasota, formerly of Oak Hill, W.Va., died Nov. 28, 2007.Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Meadowland Worship Center of the First Church of God. Interment at Palms Memorial Park will be private. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, handled arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born in Marlinton, W.Va. She had moved to Sarasota with her family in 1944 from Oak Hill. She is survived by a daughter, Juanita Bryan; a son, Jerald Smith; his wife, Linda; and two sisters, Christine Martin and Ethel Smith, all of Sarasota. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Michael Bryan of Salem, Va., and Rita McKenrick of Sarasota; and four great-grandchildren, Holly and Heather Bryan of Salem, Va., and Hannah and Sarah McKenrick of Sarasota. Mary Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Smith; her parents, Henry and Irene Miller; a grandson, Brent Smith; and two brothers, Chester and Harry Miller. Mary Esther and Nelson, along with three other families, were the founders of the First Church of God in Sarasota. Mary Esther was active in the church for over 40 years. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Meadowland Worship Center of the First Church of God, 8893 Fruitville Road, Sarasota FL 34240.
