Mary Ellen (OSullivan) Manning, 87, of Rockland, formerly of Dorchester and Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland, died on June 28, 2011 surrounded by her family at the Weymouth Health Care Center in Weymouth. Mary Ellen was born, raised, and educated in Ireland. She emigrated to the U.S in 1948 settling in Dorchester. She was a long time employee at St. Margarets Hospital, and later for the City of Boston Public Schools, retiring in 1992. Mrs. Manning moved to Rockland where she was active in the Rockland Council on Aging and the Golden Agers. Mary was a regular communicant at Holy Family Church in Rockland. Mrs. Manning was the wife of the late Daniel P. Manning. Mother of Maureen P. Manning, longtime companion of Timothy Cody of South Boston, Daniel T. Manning, longtime companion of Mary Geoghegan of Dorchester, Thomas J. and June Manning of Rockland, Eileen A. and Steve OMalley of Dorchester, James M. and Freda Manning of Dorchester, Patrick B. Manning of Dorchester, Elizabeth S. and Peter Carver of Rockland, Dennis S. and Elizabeth Manning of Dorchester, and Shawn (deceased) and Linda Manning of Westminster. Sister of Noreen OSullivan of Jamaica Plain, Bernadette Manning of Weymouth, Eithne Baker of Dorchester, Peg Quinn of Ireland. Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Manning family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate Mary Ellens life on Thursday, June 30, 2011 in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland from 5 - 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church.
