East Lyme - Mary Elizabeth Wade, 97, of Niantic, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Bride Brook Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been kindly cared for over the past ten years. Miss Wade was born on Oct. 10, 1915, in Bloomfield, to Sara Joyce Wade and Walter Wade. She proudly attended the Old Farm Schoolhouse as a child, a two-room schoolhouse dating to 1796, now a museum. After high school, she attended Morse Business College and was employed at Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, for thirty-five years.Mary loved gardening, cats and dogs, especially her beloved Shim, and spending time with her family. In her youth she enjoyed skiing and travelling. She is survived by three nieces, Nancy McDonough of Niantic, Martha Steenburgh of Pike, N.H., and Susan Duffy of Windsor; as well as six grandnieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a brother, James Wade; and a sister, Joyce Wade Duffy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. April 15, in St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic. A reception will follow. A private burial will take place in Mt.
