Mary Elizabeth Putman Moses, 85, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born May 15, 1919, in Giles County, Tenn., but spent most of her growing-up years in Athens, Ala., before moving to Decatur. During World War II, she worked in Goodyear Mills in support of the war effort. Following that time, she spent most of her life in the home, raising and taking care of her beloved husband and children. After her husband’s death in 1966, she worked until retirement at Prestolite. She was always very active in her children’s school activities and in her church work. She taught Sunday school for many years at Beech Street Church of Christ, and loved cooking and caring for those who needed her. In recent years, Mrs. Moses has been a member at Beltline Church of Christ to be nearer to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward and Lacy Lee Putman, a brother, James Howard “Bud” Putman, who was killed in World War II, a sister, Catherine Elmore, and her beloved husband, Gettis Troy Moses. She is survived by two daughters, Anita Talley (Richard) and Mary Fuller (Harold); one sister, Joyce Barbee; four grandchildren, Rick Talley (Christy), Leah Peete (Preston), Melissa Drake and Scott Fuller, all of Decatur. Her greatest joy was her five great-grand children who adored their “Grandmother Moses.” They are Tucker, Lilly, and Walker Peete, Anna Kate Talley and Weston Drake, all of Decatur. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. According to Mrs. Moses, two of her greatest blessings in life were her two “sons” by marriage, Richard Talley and Harold Fuller. They have loved and cared for her and supported her daughters in caring for their mother since their dad’s death in 1966. She has taken great joy in sharing this with many of those close to her throughout her life. She was very thankful for them and loved them as her own. Her memory will always be treasured by those who loved her so much. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur. The funeral will be Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with Bro. Mike Nix officiating. Burial will be in Athens at Roselawn Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Richard Talley, Harold Fuller, Rick Talley, Scott Fuller, Preston Peete and Harry Hames. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
