Mary Elizabeth Davis, 85, died May 21, 2008, at her home. Mary was born in Varnville, S.C., and was a native of St. Augustine since childhood, graduating from Ketterlinus High School. She retired from the St. Johns County School District where she contributed as a teacher's assistant, helping young children learn to read. Prior to joining the school district, Mary assisted her husband, Wilton, with his local independent insurance business. She was a lifelong and active member of Ancient City Baptist Church, serving her church as a volunteer, assisting with many beautiful weddings as well as helping out in the church office. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilton Davis, and her brother, Pete Priester. She is survived by her three children, Barbara Davis Parr of Huntsville, Ala., and Howard Wilton Davis and Peggy Davis Gravitz, both of St. Augustine; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in St. Augustine at Ancient City Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008, at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, St. Augustine. Those wishing may make a contribution in her memory to the Community Hospice Bailey Center for Care building fund or the St. Johns County Learn to Read, South Dixie Highway, St Augustine, Fla. Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of the arrangements.
