Mrs. Mary-Eliza Southall Moore, age 74, of Florence, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at ECM Hospital in Florence.The funeral service will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Wood Avenue Church of Christ, with Miles Stutts and Kenneth Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Florence Cemetery.She is survived by her husband, Charles Enloe Moore; brother, Philip Fox Southall and wife, Julia, of Greensboro, N.C.; nephew, William Morton Southall and wife, Kathleen, of Nashville, Tenn.; niece, Sherrod Southall Cauthen and husband, Robert, of Raleigh, N.C.; and many other nephews, nieces and cousins.Mary-Eliza was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Florence, and was preceded in death by her father, James Morton Southall, and mother, Katherine King Southall.She taught school at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, as well as Coffee and Bradshaw high schools in Florence. Mary-Eliza served on the board of directors at Maud Lindsey Free Kindergarten, serving as president at the time of her death. She was also on the board of trustees of the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts and was a joint recipient of the Archaeologist of the Year award by the Alabama Archaeological Society.Pallbearers will be John Archer, Sammie Hardie, Jim McIntosh, Van Morgan, Uhland Redd, Stanley Shipper, Joel VerPlank and Bill Wright.Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Roy Nicholson, Pud Harrison, Robert Redd, Hiawatha Johnson, Bert Jones, H. Page, Mac Christopher, Fuzzy Perritt, Bill Paxton, Allison Barnett, Robert Douthitt, Alan Bush, Terry Haddock, Tom Ross, Bill Batson, Everett Womble, Jessie Smith, Joe Ware, Bill Wallace, Watts Cole, Jack Martin and Charles Hubbert.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
