Mary Eleanor Callahan March 18, 2011 Mary Eleanor Callahan, 87, formerly of Syracuse, passed away March 18, 2011. Born in Syracuse, she attended Most Holy Rosary School and was a graduate of Marywood University, Class of 1946. She was a social worker and attendance teacher for the Syracuse City School District for 36 years, retiring in 1985. A life member of the NYS and Onondaga Co. Retired Teachers associations, she also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mary Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, George and Frances; brothers, George and Edmund; and sister Margaret Ann. Survived by her niece, Annmarie (Jeffrey) Fiske of Penfield, NY; nephew, Pete (Cathy) Callahan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; great- nieces, Barbara and Jacqueline; and great-nephews, Dustin, Chad and Ryan. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, at St. Joseph's Chapel of Most Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the Friendly Home and Lifetime Care Hospice in Rochester, for their compassion and support.
