-><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Johnson, Mary E. (Beth) (Spence)Rochester: Mary Elizabeth Spence Johnson, aged 74, passed away on April 8, 2014 after a two-year battle with cancer. She grew up in Irondequoit, the third of four Spence children, and graduated from Irondequoit High School. After business school, she married Elmer Johnson and lived in Greece. She will be remembered as an enthusiastic participant in the activities of the Greece Y, Greece Senior Services, Red Hats, and the many programs of Hope Lutheran Church. Mary Beth loved people. She volunteered to visit nursing homes. She met returning soldiers at the airport, and helped with PGA tournaments.Mary Beth was proud of Rochester, always taking visiting family members sightseeing, followed by a trip to Abbotts Frozen Custard.She is survived by her sister, Jill Habernigg of Portland Oregon, and sisters in law, Trudy Spence, Linda Skeen, and Mary Wright, and several nieces and nephews: David Spence of Texas, Rebecca Mooney of New Jersey, Jennifer Snow of New Hampshire, Ann Habernigg of Washington state, Susan Habernigg of California,, Robert Spence of Massachusetts and Lindsay Spence of North Carolina.The entire family is indebted to all the friends and neighbors in Greece and the Hope Lutheran Community who have shown great compassion and a remarkable devotion to one of their members. We are grateful to all her friends who have reached out to us and been so supportive of Mary Beth. You have shown us the true meaning of community, A service to remember Mary Beth will be held on SATURDAY (5/10) 11 AM at Hope Lutheran Church (1301 Vintage Lane, 14626).
