MARY E. ADAMS Mary E. Adams, age 88, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008, in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born in Houston, Texas on July 5, 1919 to Burns Elliott and Henrietta Goldie (Fletcher) Emerson. She was a homemaker, and member of the First Baptist Church in Avon Park, Avon Park Bridge Club and Gourmet Club, the Avon Park Chapter of the Red Hat Society, of the Inner Wheel, a 1939 graduate of Gunston Hall School for Young Ladies in Washington, DC, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at Brown University, she was a devoted wife and loving and generous mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Lark Emerson Adams of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Joseph Morris Adams, IV, Richard Armstrong Adams, Geordie Emerson Ulmer, Jessie Amy Ulmer and Kistler Mary Ulmer; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Morris Adams, Jr. and son, Joseph Morris Adams, III. Visitation will be 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008 (1 hour prior to service) in the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lanier officiating. Burial will follow in Bougainvillea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer' s Association: National Office, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601 or online to www.alz.org.
