Mary Dell Purcell Cooper, 90, passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father, peacefully at home, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, with the Rev. Taylor Gallman officiating. Burial to follow at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Cooper; her parents, Noah and Mattie Purcell; her sisters, Eunice Hill, Ruby Watson, Louise Cothran; and her brother, Wilbur Purcell; along with all of their spouses. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in Etowah County on July 10, 1921, and was raised on the mountain and lived there most of her life until moving to Rainbow City two years ago. She loved being around family and friends, and she and Gerald enjoyed traveling until his health declined. She was a member most of her life of Bellevue United Methodist Church and loved all of her church family. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Sheila Cooper (Robert Barranco) of Birmingham and Marsha Sherrer (Glenn) of Rainbow City; grandson, Jason Sherrer (Christie) of Rainbow City; great-grandson, Aiden Sherrer; stepgranddaughter, Rhonda Bailey (Scott) of Madison; stepgrandson, Greg Sherrer (Crystal) of Locust Fork; and step-great-grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy, Blake, Chase, Hayley and Kylee Sherrer; brother-in-law, Jimmie Cooper (Betty) of Frankenmuth, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Iyer, Dianne and the staff of Gadsden Family Practice; the staff of Cornerstone Family Pharmacy; Dr. Ronald Hanson; and the members of the Rosa Reagan Sunday School Class of Bellevue United Methodist Church. Special thanks to Karen, Lindsey, Suzanne and Kristie of Alacare Hospice. To Valerie and Sheryl, your loving care of our mother was phenomenal and we cannot thank you enough. The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to Bellevue United Methodist Church, 209 Mary Lou Circle, Gadsden, AL 35904.Visitation is 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.Condolences may be made at www.collier-butler.com.
