HARRINGTON - Mary C. Davis, 81, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 15, 2009, in Holiday, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Liverpool, England, the daughter of Thomas A. and Mary J. (Farrell) Joynson. Mary grew up in Liverpool, England during World War II. As a young girl, she and thousands of other children were sent to the countryside of Wales to live while England focused on rebuilding the country from the destruction of the war. Mary met her future husband, Philmont Davis, while he was stationed in England in the U.S. Air Force. They married Nov. 12, 1952, and shared 54 years of marriage. Mary retired from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. She enjoyed working with people and sharing her knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyles. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Harrington, her second family; and Generations Christian Church of Tarpon Springs, Fla. Mary lived her life with a strong faith in the Lord. She loved her family and spent her life caring for others, from raising her children to taking care of ill family members. Mary became a snowbird several years ago, spending her winters in Florida with her daughter, Carol. She enjoyed the change between Maine summers and Florida winters. Mary is survived by four children, Carol A. Craft and her husband, Robert, of Holiday, Fla., Linda S. Hussey of Bangor, Cindy M. Davis of Milbridge and Philip L. Davis and his wife, Linda, of Harrington; eight grandchildren, John Snyder, Jessica Alley, Jonathan Haycock, Lauren Hussey, Darren Craft, Eric Butler, Adam Butler and Anna Butler; one brother, John Joynson of Liverpool, England; one sister, Miriam McKeown of Liverpool, England; five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Philmont; one sister and four brothers. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at First Baptist Church, Harrington, with Pastor David Kennedy officiating.
