Mary-D. Moore, née en 1925, conjointe de Leland Moore, fille de George et Cora-B, est décédée le 31 mars 2005 à l'âge de 79 ans. Veuillez consulter son avis de décès ici:
March 31, 2005 Mary D. Moore, 79, of 303 East Main St., Elkland, PA, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 31, 2005, at Manor Care North in Williamsport, PA, with her family at her side. She died peacefully in her sleep after suffering from Alzheimer's disease and a brief illness. Mrs. Moore, the daughter of George B. and Cora B. Dorrance, was born in Elkland, PA, on December 24, 1925. Mary was a graduate of Elkland High School and Mansfield State Teachers College (now Mansfield University). A lifelong learner, Mary Moore earned 90 graduate credits beyond her bachelor's degree by attending night school and summer school classes at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD; Elmira College, Elmira, NY; SUNY Cortland, Cortland, NY; Ithaca College and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY; and Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. This was accomplished while working full time and raising her family. Mary's first job was as a waitress at one of the Hot Spot restaurants, the predecessors to the Marriott Hotel chain, in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Moore taught home economics and history in Harrison Valley, PA, for three years, and was a common sight riding her Whizzer motor bike 25 miles home to Elkland on weekends. After a time, she saved enough for a down payment on a 1949 Ford that was her prized possession and a much warmer ride home during the winter. Mary Moore also taught home economics in Addison, NY, for 31 years, retiring from there in 1985. She also served as advisor for the Future Homemakers of America club, the Student Council, and the senior class. Mrs. Moore belonged to the local Eastern Star chapter for more than 50 years, was a member of Elkland TOPS, and was a member of Parkhurst Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkland. Mary wed Leland U. Moore of Elkland, PA, on February 12, 1949, in Harrison Valley, PA. The couple raised two children and spent many wonderful years of retirement together in Elkland and Haines City, FL, until Mary's husband Leland passed away in December 2004. Mary Moore is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia M. and Michael G. MacDonald, Jamesville, NY; granddaughters, Alexis C. MacDonald, Alexandria, VA, and Hillary E. MacDonald, Jamesville, NY; daughter-in-law, Lisa Moore Bock, Williamsport, PA; sister-in-law, Catherine Dorrance Drawdy, Elkland, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leland U. Moore, formerly of Elkland, PA; her son, Dennis E. Moore, formerly of Montoursivlle, PA; a granddaughter, Alison B. MacDonald; and her two brothers, Frederick and John Dorrance, formerly of Elkland, PA. At the request of the family there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Parkhurst Memorial Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Elkland, PA, on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. Private interment will immediately follow in Highland Cemetery, Elkland, PA. The family respectfully declines flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern Pennsylvania Regional Office, 63 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18071. Arrangements are in care of the Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 West Main Street, Elkland, PA.
