OBITUARY MARY CATHERINE FREEMAN Catherine (Kitty) passed away in Montreal at Chateau Westmount on March 13, 2009. She was born in Prescott, Ontario in 1921 to the late Mary Catherine McCarney and Gerald Freeman. When she completed her education in Prescott, she attended Macdonald College/McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 1941 with a Bachelor of Household Science. She attended Royal Victoria Hospital for dietitian training and then immediately joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps as Lieutenant (Dietitian) serving in England and Belgium. She was proud of her service to her country and frequently spoke of her tour of duty. Upon discharge in 1946 she went to Ste Anne de Bellevue Hospital as dietitian and subsequently moved to Queen Mary Veterans Hospital until she retired in 1978. Catherine travelled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed talking about her travels and experiences. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Kevin's Roman Catholic Church on Cote des Neiges Road and was very generous in donations of time and money to the church. She was a generous supporter of the Macdonald campus of McGill University setting up an Endowment and Fellowship in her name. She was also very generous to many charities and organizations in the Montreal area and particularly enjoyed attending social functions and the Symphony. She leaves many close friends and was especially appreciative of the many kindnesses of her friend Miriam McAlary. She also leaves many cousins especially Margaret McFarlane of Prescott, Bernadette McParlan of Kingston, AnnaMary and Margaret Ryan of Brockville. Friends will be received at on Sunday March 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Requiem Mass will be said at St. Kevin's Church on Monday March 16 at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in the Freeman family plot at St. Mark's Cemetery, Prescott, Ontario at a later date. Donations may be made to the M. Catherine Freeman Endowment at McGill University, 1430 Peel St., Montreal, Quebec H3A 3T3 or to a charity of your choice.
