CARTER, MARY KATHRYN OWEN, passed away April 21, 2014 at Treyton Oak Towers. A native of Louisville, she was born on Ocotber 13, 1914. "Mary Kay" as she was affectionately called, was a lifelong member of 4th Avenue United Methodist Church on the cradle roll, sang in the choir, played the piano for Sunday School and participated in women's activities. She was also a charter member of the Chancel choir, a charter member of the FAME class, and a member of the former LGHS Alumni Club. Mary Kathryn taught elementary school in the old Louisville system for 40 years and was a member of the Jefferson County School Teachers Systems. She enjoyed music, playing bridge, and keeping up with her family and many friends. Mary Kay is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Marvin Ray Carter of Tacoma, WA, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Carr (Ted) of Durango, CO; granddaughters, Jennifer (Steve) of Clermont, FL, and Elanor Meeker (Danny) also of Durango, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Allyra and Ben. Her funeral service will be Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.Visitation will be 2-4 and 6- 8 p.m. at Highlands on Friday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to 4th Avenue United Methodist Church or donor's favorite charity.
